Peruvian gastronomic traditions during Christmas
Peruvian cuisine is known worldwide for its variety, coming from both its roots and culture, as well as from its fusion with renowned international dishes. Likewise, Christmas celebration is not left behind, since the tables are filled with delicious dishes to be shared with family.
Whether inside or outside home, Peruvians celebrate this festivity with the greatness of its gastronomy, while Delfines Hotel and Convention Center offers one of the most spectacular Christmas dinners ever seen in Lima, with an incredible diversity of traditional delicacies to be tasted by locals and tourists.
What is served in a Peruvian Christmas dinner?
The Christmas dinner has been changing over the years, each region used to have its own specialties. However, for a couple of generations, the North American tradition has been adapted throughout Peru, such as pork or turkey as main dishes, although in Lima the asado (beef stew) and hams cannot be absent.
When it comes to traditions, adobo is very popular in Cusco and in the highlands in general. Also the asado (beef stew) and seco (cilantro beef stew) are usually festive dishes, which could be summed up to the fact that the Peruvian Christmas tradition was oriented to stews
Likewise, tamales and humitas are placed on the tables, being these part of an Inca tradition and it is common to find them at Christmas in every home, as well as Christmas sweets such as manna and bola de oro that are properly traditional, and the so-called convent sweets and marzipan that are quite old in Peru.
A part of the tradition in December is to eat panettone and drink hot chocolate, which came from Europe between 1800 and 1850, adapting deeply despite not being part of an ancestral tradition.
That is why at Delfines Hotel & Convention Center we will offer a Great Christmas Dinner this December 24 from 9:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. Come to share with the family the best of traditional and foreign mergers to celebrate uniquely.
